1. Overview
FridgeFam (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have when using the FridgeFam mobile application and related services (“App”).
2. Information we collect
2.1 Information you provide
- Account data: Email address, name, and authentication credentials.
- Household data: Household names, member information (including optional birthdays), and invite codes.
- Content: Grocery items, tags, recipes, meal plans, and notes you create.
- Preferences: Notification choices and in-app settings.
2.2 Information collected automatically
- Device data: Device type, operating system, app version, language, and country.
- Usage data: Feature usage, session events, crash reports, and diagnostics.
- Analytics: Aggregated usage metrics to improve the App.
- Log data: IP address and timestamps used for security and fraud prevention.
2.3 Advertising data
If you are on the Free tier, we may display ads via Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device identifiers (such as the advertising identifier), coarse location, and ad interaction data to serve and measure ads. You can control ad personalization in your device settings.
2.4 Purchases
Subscriptions are processed by Apple. We receive subscription status and transaction identifiers from Apple to unlock premium features. We do not receive your payment card details.
2.5 Optional AI features
If you use AI-powered categorization (for groceries, household items, appliances, or any other products) or recipe tools, we process the content you submit to generate results. We do not use your content to market to you.
2.6 Content moderation
To maintain a safe environment, we use automated content moderation to filter prohibited content (such as hate speech, profanity, and attempts to manipulate AI features). When content is blocked:
- The blocked content is not stored in your account or shared with household members.
- We may log metadata about blocked attempts (such as timestamps and content type) for security and abuse prevention purposes, without storing the actual content.
- Repeated violations may be flagged for review and could result in account restrictions.
3. How we use information
We process information to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the App and its features.
- Sync data across devices and household members in real-time.
- Process subscriptions and in-app purchases via Apple.
- Send notifications you opt into (e.g., item updates, reminders, birthday alerts to household members).
- Deliver ads to Free tier users and measure ad performance.
- Deliver support and respond to inquiries.
- Detect, prevent, and address security or technical issues.
- Comply with legal obligations.
4. How we share information
4.1 Household sharing
When you join a household, your name, email, birthday (if provided), and activity (e.g., items added or checked off) are visible to other members so collaboration works. If you add your birthday, other household members will receive reminders about upcoming birthdays.
4.2 Service providers
We use trusted vendors to operate the App:
- Google Cloud / Firebase for hosting, databases, and authentication.
- Apple for payments, subscriptions, and notifications.
- Google AdMob for advertising shown to Free tier users.
- Analytics and error monitoring tools (e.g., Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics) to maintain reliability.
4.3 Legal requirements
We may disclose information if required by law or to protect rights, safety, and property of users, the public, or FridgeFam.
5. Advertising and analytics
We use analytics to understand feature usage and improve the App. Ads are shown to Free tier users and may be personalized depending on your device settings and consent. You can limit ad tracking and reset your advertising identifier in iOS settings.
6. Data retention
We retain data while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete personal data within 30 days unless we must retain it for legal, security, or fraud-prevention obligations.
7. Your rights and choices
- Access and correction: Update your account details in the App.
- Deletion: Delete your account in settings to remove your data from our systems (subject to legal retention requirements).
- Notifications: Control notification preferences in the App or device settings.
- Advertising: Upgrade to Premium for an ad-free experience or opt out of personalized ads in iOS settings.
- Subscriptions: Manage or cancel subscriptions in Apple ID settings.
8. Data storage and security
Data is stored on Google Cloud Platform with encryption in transit and at rest. We apply access controls, monitoring, and regular backups to protect your information.
9. Children’s privacy
FridgeFam is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe we collected such data, contact us and we will delete it.
10. International transfers
Your data may be processed in the United States and other countries. We use appropriate safeguards to protect data in accordance with this policy.
11. California privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA)
California residents may request to know, access, delete, and correct personal information. We do not sell personal information. Submit requests to privacy@fridgefam.com.
12. European users (GDPR)
If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you may access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing and request data portability. You may also lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority.
13. Changes to this policy
We will post updates to this policy with a new “Last updated” date. Significant changes will be communicated in-app or via email. Continued use after updates means you accept the revised policy.
